What is remedial training and how do I set it up?

Remedial training automatically sends a follow-up training sequence to employees who click a link in a phishing simulation. You configure it once, and Moxso takes it from there.

How it works

When an employee clicks a simulation link, Moxso detects this as a trigger and enrolls them in the sequence you've defined. The training arrives while the experience is still fresh, which makes employees more likely to engage with it.

Set up a remedial training sequence

Step 1: Create a sequence

  1. Go to Automation in the left-hand admin panel.
  2. Click Create a sequence.
  3. Enter a name and select the employee group this sequence should apply to. You can select multiple groups.
  4. Add one or two training videos. Relevant options include: How to detect phishing, Why you should report phishing, AI's impact on phishing, and Phishing from a trusted sender.
  5. For each video, choose length. We recommend that you set it to 1 week. This means that the deadline for the completion of the video will be set to one weak from the assignment date.
  6. Set the order of the videos and add a wait step of one to two days between them.

Keep the sequence short. Employees already receive regular training — one to two modules is enough to reinforce the lesson without adding too much.

Step 2: Configure the trigger

  1. Click Settings at the top of the sequence editor.
  2. Under Trigger, select When an employee clicks a link in a simulation.
  3. Review the options and adjust based on your needs. Pay special attention to the following options:
    • Enable repeatable assignments — turn this on under Advanced Settings if you want the employees in this sequence to receive videos they’d previously completed. Employees who click simulation links benefit from revisiting the material.
    • Repeat automation flow — re-triggers the sequence over time. Turn this on if you want the reinforcement to continue long-term.
    • Enable relative progression — sends the second module even if the employee hasn't completed the first. This increases the chance they engage with at least part of the sequence.
  4. Click Save settings.
  5. Click Activate in the top right corner. The sequence is now live.

Monitor performance

Find the sequence in your Automations list. The sequence funnel shows where employees are in the flow, and the details below show how many have completed each step. Click Show activity to see individual employee progress.

Why it works

Employees who tend to deprioritize training are more likely to engage when the timing is right. Receiving a training video right after clicking a simulation link — when they're aware they made a mistake — makes them more motivated to act on it.
